Wieslab offers new test for suspected immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy

March 30, 2015 - Company News, Product News, Disease Area News
A group of researchers at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine have identified antibodies against HMGCR associated with Necrotizing Autoimmune Myopathy (NAM), i.e. necrotic muscle fibers without the presence of inflammatory infiltrates *.

This form of myopathy associated with autoantibodies to HMGCR, can now be analyzed in our laboratory. Anti-HMGCR is strongly associated with statin therapy. The analysis can be ordered separately or as part of one of our myopathy package. (Link to request forms).

Wieslab also offer tests in cases of suspected treatment failure with TNF-alpha inhibitors caused by neutralizing antibodies

All patients do not respond satisfactorily to treatment with TNF-alpha inhibitors. Reasons for this may be that the patient inflammation is not driven by TNF-alpha or the patient has developed so-called neutralizing anti-drug antibodies (Nabs) that hinder the efficacy and can also trigger serious side effects. At Wieslab we use functional cell-based assays (iLite Ôäó) that measures the activity of the drug and the possible presence of NABS providing therapeutically relevant test results. The tests can be used to optimize the individual treatment strategy for each patient and be part of the patient monitoring process.

The following TNF inhibitors can be tested in Wieslab;
(Concentration determination and analysis of NABS) Enbrel (Etanercept), Humira® (Adalimumab), Remicade® (Infliximab), Simponi® (Golimumab) and Cimzia® (Certolizumab pegol). We are also ready to analyze upcoming biosimilars. (Link to request forms).
