HOMER 3 antibodies

Indication

In case of suspected autoimmune encephalitis/autoimmune cerebellar ataxia.

Method

Indirect immunofluorescence (IIF)

Response

Results are reported as negative or positive. Positive results are reported with a titer.

Interpretation

Presence of autoantibodies to protein Homer-3 has been reported in cases of autoimmune cerebellar ataxia.

Homer proteins are a family of scaffolding proteins of the postsynaptic density. Homer-3 co-localizes modulates the activity of group I metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluR1 and mGluR5).

The presence of Homer-3 autoantibodies should be considered in the differential diagnosis of patients with subacute cerebellar ataxia of unknown cause.
